It’s congratulations, good luck and some new beginnings

You told us you wanted support for your businesses to stay independent - that you wanted access to training and development to help your business prosper and grow. You told us that you have capable, willing individuals in your team that are ready to take the next step and develop into future leaders.

At the start of 2018 nineteen like-minded individuals were nominated from brokerages of all sizes, from across the UK to come together with one shared ambition. They all wanted to be boardroom ready and to learn the skills needed to run a successful business. They became the first Aviva Future Leader broker delegates.

In December, we said a formal congratulations to our first cohort of delegates at the inaugural Future Leader Graduation. After completing twelve modules on the programme, the evening was a chance to celebrate the delegates’ achievements and a chance to look back on their progression over the past two years.

Hosted by our programme trainers John Nutter and Dan Wall, with support from programme partner Andrew Scott, the evening focused on the individual delegates. Featuring special moments from the course, it was an emotional evening with speeches from the training team, sponsors and delegates themselves.

Programme sponsor Phil Bayles reflected on the programme. “In two short years, it’s gone from being a new thing that we’ve done, to being one of the best things”. He also advised the graduates to “carry on nurturing the relationships that you've built with us, the mentors and most importantly your cohort of friends and colleagues”.

Some of the delegates also shared their experiences from the past two years. Laurence O’Connor from Financial Affairs Ltd commented “It’s made me a better person, a better communicator and ultimately a better leader”.

Sarah Giles of Newstead Insurance Brokers said “Whilst doing the course, my confidence has grown and grown.” She quickly following it up with “exciting times ahead. I think it’s just the start of something as opposed to something finishing.”
