What brokers are saying about the Aviva Future Leader Programme
January 2018 saw the launch of the Aviva Future Leader Programme, and our nineteen broker delegates joined to become the first class of future leaders through the programme. Driven by our aim of championing brokers and supporting broker independence, the two-year programme provides the delegates with support, training, coaching and mentoring to help ready them for a position as a broker business leader.
With three modules completed already, we asked the delegates what they have to say about the programme so far and how its helping them and their business...
The delegates relate to common situations and challenges in the workplace. Keeping the group small has enabled the nineteen delegates to spend time to really get to know our trainers, mentor experts and each other. This has provided invaluable as they discuss the themes and issues faced by all independent regional brokers alongside the course content. Delegate Andy Payne from Northcott Beaton commented,
“Many people on the course are in a similar boat and have an element of uncertainty about where they are in their career or business”.
This view was echoed by Jenny Hyde from Stanmore Insurance Brokers who said,
“One of the best things about the course is the opportunity to share work related issues and concerns with others and how much people are prepared to share about their own experiences and offer their support and ideas”.
Easy Access to Experts
One of the key differentiators of the Aviva Future Leader Programme is direct access to industry mentor’s experts who regularly spend time with the delegates discussing the broker market and bringing some of the course theory to life with their own real-life examples. Delegates have also recognised the value brought by the Mentors. David McGowan from Woodward Markwell noted,
“Fantastic motivation speakers. I learned a lot. Tons of content to take away” and Warren Baldwin, Berns Brett Ltd, simply rated the mentors input as “Excellent”.
The training and coaching can only take a delegate so far, the inner desire to embrace change and improve must come from within and we’ve seen the group form strong bonds with each other through the programme which gives extra support to the individuals. Colin Mullan from Find Insurance Northern Ireland told us,
“The other candidates are excellent and there’s a definite confidence and trust within the room” and it’s not just the course content that is driving the discussion, Craig Younger from Castle Insurance shared, “Some of the totally open and tangential discussions have been really useful and gets everyone engaged”.
It’s good for me and its good business
With content to support individual development and the running of the business, we’re delighted to see the value delegates are getting from the programme and taking back to their office too, “this course is already proving to be an invaluable experience for both me personally and for my current business as a whole” commented Andy Payne from Northcott Beaton.
