An extraordinary day to celebrate the 2017 winners
In September over 200 brokers entered a project into the Aviva Community Fund. Over £225,000 was awarded to broker supported causes and on 20 March, the winning brokers and their guests joined us for a day of celebration like no other. Watch the video highlights today.
The event was held at Gorton Monastery, Manchester, which has its own unique community story as it was completely transformed from its derelict state by the people of Gorton. It was the perfect venue to spotlight the communities in the room and the great work they do. On the day the projects were brought to life on stage through videos and stories and the guests enjoyed the opportunity to meet and spend time with like-minded community and broker champions. It was great to hear how winning would make a massive difference. From children’s disability groups, to sporting facilities and animal rescue groups, you can see the full list of winners on the broker Aviva Community Fund website.
The compere for the day was Rugby World Cup winner and Aviva Community Fund ambassador Will Greenwood, who shares our passion to support community projects. As well as his work with the School of Hard Knocks programme he talked about his upcoming Arctic trek which he’s doing with Borne to raise money for research into the treatment and prevention of premature births. We’re supporting Will in his Arctic Trek challenge this month, follow updates on his journey on twitter @WillGreenwood #BorneArcticTrek
The winners also heard the story of special guest speaker, Victoria Milligan. Victoria shared her own inspirational story of resilience as she talked about the important role that community groups have played in her and her family.
Thank you to everyone that entered the Aviva Community Fund in 2017 and to the winning broker and project guests that joined us at the celebration event to share their stories. Watch highlights of the celebration event today. Stay tuned on the site to find out more about the Aviva Community Fund competition for 2018 as it reopens this summer for your entries.
