Our Fraud Team

At Aviva, we take fraud very seriously – it’s all about protecting you and your customers. So, let’s find out a little more about what our fraud team does.

We’ve built market-leading capabilities to prevent, detect and respond to fraud across the product lifecycle (sales, underwriting and claims) – and have taken the fight against fraud to the front door and point of the quote. We’re screening all of our home, personal motor and commercial motor policies at the point of sale and at any mid-term changes and renewals. We maintain internal watch lists across all of Aviva general insurance products and distribution channels, as well as share information with the market, to ensure that fraudsters don’t use our broker partners to access products.

In 2017, we detected approximately 15,000 fraudulent policies, repudiated more than 15,000 suspect or fraudulent claims, and prosecuted 59 instances of fraud (resulting in sentences over 109 years).

Our fraud team have also won or been “highly commended” in 8 award categories in 2017 – including winners at the Insurance Fraud Awards for:

  1. Underwriting initiative of the year (real-time Motor screening at point of quote)
  2. Unsung Insurance Investigator (our Special Investigations Unit)
  3. Improving Public Knowledge (through our media and Road to Reform campaigns)
  4. Collaboration of the Year (with the Police and MIB)

In 2018 we’ll continue to strengthen our ability to prevent and detect fraud – including tackling quote manipulation in our broker motor book.
