Important information for customers regarding the new luggage restrictions
The UK government has announced new travel restrictions banning large electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, being taken into the cabin on inbound direct flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. This follows similar restrictions by the US.
Mobile phones are allowed in the cabin but other electronic devices that are more than 16cm long, 9.3cm wide and 1.5cm in depth will have to be checked in.
In the first instance, we recommend that UK holidaymakers who are either in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia or have plans to travel to these countries over the coming days contact their airline or travel provider for advice.
Aviva travel insurance
Aviva baggage cover, which is an add-on to standard travel insurance, covers luggage – suitcase, clothes and toiletries - which are lost, stolen or damaged while in the hold. It does not usually cover usually valuables, such as laptops and tablets, as the policy specifies these should be carried in hand baggage.
In recognition of the uncertainty caused by these new restrictions and to help our customers during this time, we have extended our baggage cover to specifically cover large electronic devices, such as laptops and tablets, while they are in luggage kept in the hold. This will apply to inbound direct flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. The excess is £50 per person and the limit for valuables is £400 and single items are £300.
Once you’ve collected your baggage from the collection point, check your laptop or tablet straight away. If you find it’s missing or damaged, report the details to the airline in writing and request a Property Irregularity Report. Please keep all travel tickets and luggage tags to help support your claim.
If you have any customers who would like to make a claim they can contact us on:

Alternatively, for more information about any aspect of their travel insurance policy either visit our website at or contact us on 0800 096 8104 (lines are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday).
This is a developing situation and we will continue to monitor and update you with any further developments.
