Important information for Aviva customers impacted by Hurricane Matthew
The most powerful storm in a decade, Hurricane Matthew, has caused widespread devastation across Haiti. It’s now moved across the north-eastern coast of Cuba towards the Bahamas and is expected to hit the Florida coast on Friday, before moving north along the coast of Georgia and North and South Carolina over the weekend.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) recommends that if you are in the affected area you should monitor the progress of the approaching storms and follow the instructions issued by local authorities, including evacuation orders.
Aviva recommends that UK holidaymakers who are either in the area, or have plans to travel there over the coming days contact their airline or travel provider, in the first instance, for advice on coming home early or cancelling or rearranging their trip.
In recognition of the uncertainty and to help our customers during this time, we have extended our standard travel insurance cover for those currently in or travelling to the effected areas. If you have booked your accommodation independently and it is made uninhabitable, or unreachable by the storm we will provide cover to enable you to come home early or cancel your trip, provided the trip was booked before the 5 October and you are due to travel before the 19 October.
If you have any customers who would like to make a claim they can contact us on:
- Personal Lines - 0800 015 1091
- Commercial Lines – 01243 621 359
Alternatively, for more information about any aspect of their travel insurance policy either visit our website or contact us on 0800 096 8104 (lines are open 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday).
This is a developing situation and we will continue to monitor and update you with any further developments.
