Motor certificates and cancellations

The Deregulation Act 2015 introduced a simplified regulatory process that changed the Road Traffic Act 1988 requirements around returning motor insurance certificates.

We’ll be amending our personal lines and commercial policy documentation to reflect these changes. In the meantime, any condition in the policy regarding the return of the motor insurance certificate is no longer operative.

These changes place much greater emphasis on the MID as the record of insurance as we’re potentially still liable until the MID is updated. It’s therefore extremely important that where you process policy cancellation on our behalf it’s immediate and where you inform Aviva of a policy cancellation it’s treated as a matter of priority.

If you have any questions about this, please contact you usual personal lines or commercial underwriter.
