Community Fund update

The 2014 Aviva Broker Community Fund is now open for your nominations. We know that many of you already work hard to support charities and projects in your local communities and the Aviva Community Fund provides an opportunity for you gain some additional support which can really make a difference.

Last year, The Starr Trust was just one of the worthy winners and they’re already putting the money to good use. The trust (formally known as The Edward Starr Charitable Trust) was founded in 2008 by broker Rob Starr (Director of Aston Scott Group PLC), to help raise money to bring about positive impact on children’s lives through education, sport, healthcare and the arts to help them to achieve their potential. The team at Aston Scott are strong supporters of the Trust and raised over £25,000 for the charity in 2013.

The £7,500 we awarded to the Trust last year was used to help launch their CHOCS (Children Helping Other Children Smile) education and mentoring programme which had previously been running as a pilot.

CHOCS provide Secondary School children with an opportunity to work with and be mentored by local businesses and set up their own mini social enterprise with the aim of raising money for children in the developing world through links with a locally based charity.

The money enabled them to extend the reach of the CHOCS programme and develop it’s digital capabilities making it more efficient and enhancing communications between the partners involved.

Emily Hahn from The Starr Trust explained “The Aviva award has been invaluable to The Starr Trust, and has allowed us to reach many more people on whom CHOCS will have a positive impact.”

Rob Starr added “We’ve always found Aviva to stand for continuity, honesty and integrity, so when we were told about the Aviva Community Fund, we knew it would be more than just giving out money, it would be about listening, learning and guiding. We entered our nomination, not only because of the funds available, but because we felt the ethos across Aston Scott, The Starr Fund and Aviva would allow a partnership to be formed which could support the charity going forward.”

You could help to make a difference for your local charity or project by nominating them for the 2014 Aviva Community Fund, and for entries received by 30 May there is even more chance to win with our Early Incentive prize draw.
