Community Fund Success
We caught up with 2013 Community Fund winners Saffron Insurance who shared a heart-warming story of how they were able to make a difference to the frontline troops of Carver Barracks and their families with a Panto themed day out…oh yes they did!
The Aviva Broker Community Fund is launching for entries next month for the fourth year running. The competition highlights the fantastic work you do with charities in your communities and gives us the opportunity to support your efforts. We’ve been delighted to hear from one of last year’s winners, Saffron Insurance, and how they’re continuing their support for Carver Barracks after receiving £2500 from the Community Fund in 2013.
Carver Barracks, is at the heart of the community in Saffron Walden, and is the home of both 101 and 33 Engineer Regiments specialising in the dangerous job of Explosive Ordnance Disposal. In carrying out their duties they have saved countless lives and Saffron Insurance, along with their local community, are extremely proud of the troops.
Wanting to give something back to these brave troops and their families, the team at Saffron Insurance joined forces with their local Rotary club to give them a day out together to remember.
Speaking of why they got involved, Sarah Darling, Director of Marketing from Saffron Insurance said ‘Making a decision to support Carver Barracks was easy from Saffron’s perspective, we respect the work that these soldiers do on a daily basis.
The most recent efforts of Saffron Insurance were evident on Sunday 5 January 2014 as coaches left the Barracks for a seasonal Panto trip and afternoon tea. It was fantastic to hear that the day was made possible by the Community Fund donation; it was a huge success and appreciated by all. When speaking to the families, it became clear that the way of life for an army family is extremely tough and this event was a highlight in the year and something for them all to share together. For those who couldn’t attend as a whole family, it gave the partners and children something to look forward to.
“As a business we were happy to raise the full amount, over £8,000. We were also delighted that our staff personally gave so much in time and money and Aviva's generosity through their charity funding. This clearly demonstrates the admiration we all hold for these fearless regiments at Carver Barracks. The least we can do is give something back to the soldiers and their families.”
A day out for most families might not be a big deal, but for these families it will be a cherished memory. Well done to Saffron Insurance for stepping up to make a memorable difference for the military communities of Saffron Walden.
