Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme – access the expertise of a club near you
Aviva Premiership Rugby’s key legacy project, the Aviva Schools Programme, is now in its fourth season. Find out how a school near you could benefit.
The Programme, which is supported by Aviva, is an initiative which introduces more than 40,000 young people each season to rugby union through tag rugby, creating a vibrant and effective rugby legacy in England. If you know a school within 30 miles of a Premiership Rugby club, here’s your chance to nominate them, giving them the chance to benefit from this fantastic initiative.
The scheme targets new-to-rugby, non-traditional rugby schools and it provides five weeks of coaching and teacher training, grassroots club links, plus resources for the school so that they can continue to play rugby in the future.
Louisa Cheetham, Senior Sponsorship & Corporate Responsibility Manager at Aviva said, "In the delivery of the Aviva Schools Programme we are seeing lasting results through 1200 teachers each year continuing to be able to teach Tag in their schools and so hopefully inspire the next generation of rugby players to take up the sport; not only that, we have an impact on thousands of children each season." With results like this, nominating a school gives you a real opportunity to have a valuable impact in your community.
The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme is aimed at pupils in Year 3 (7/8 year olds) and each Premiership Rugby club will work with two classes at each school.
The Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools Programme involves a six week introduction to rugby:
• Weeks 1-3:
Skill development and learning the rules
• Weeks 4-5:
Skill development and team skills
The tag rugby festival in week six will be the first taste of competitive rugby for many children and will allow schools that are new to rugby to participate in a fun tag rugby festival with schools of a similar standard.
One school from each Premiership Rugby club region will qualify to attend the Finals at Twickenham where they will represent their Premiership Rugby club.
