Broker spotlight – why being charitable is good for you and your business

With so many of you getting involved with local causes, we caught up with Karen Weir who, with support from the Aviva Broker Community Fund, has given so much to a local cause close to her heart.

The Aviva Broker Community Fund started back in 2010 and since that time, we’re proud to have donated much-needed funding to over 75 deserving charities.

Karen, MD of Weir Insurance in Newcastle, has worked closely with the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy (CNGA) for a number of years as a competition judge.

She recognises that there is so much value on a personal level from being involved with CNGA saying, “Working with children aged 7 to 18 doing elite gymnastics has really taught me a lot about human attributes. I have seldom seen such determination, dedication, bravery, teamwork and support from many adults. We could all learn a lot from these young gymnasts.”

Following the devastating floods experienced in the area last year, Karen not only assisted CNGA with their insurance claim but she also submitted an entry into the Aviva Broker Community Fund where they were successful in securing one of our top awards of £15,000. Donations like this and support from people like Karen mean that the academy can continue to go from strength to strength, encouraging the next generation of elite athletes.

Furthermore, local press took a real interest both in the work of the charity and Karen’s involvement which also helped to increase awareness of her business in the local community.

If you are one of our Community Fund winners and have a story to share, get in touch with us at comfund@aviva.co.uk – we’d love to hear from you! And if you’d like to read about the initiative or about our winners in more detail, visit the website.
